In the wanderings made in this corner of Africa,

Edward Saīd TINGATINGA man is originally from southern Tanzania.
Lack of means in which lived his family has not allowed it to have a primary school full. It has emigrated (on the death of his mother in 1952) of Tanga Region in Tanzania, where he worked in a plantation of sisal for support to its needs, as well as for its own.
In 1960,
Edward thus called it on colloquially, because said was that of his father and
TINGATINGA that of his grandfather. The chance was given to come and work for a Dar Es Salaam, where one of his cousins submitted as individual Cook!
Nothing liability to this way of life, as was an excellent musician and traditional dancer.
Edward and his friends seize all opportunities to exhibit on Dar es Salaam, where that group name
"MAKONDI" of Msasani village (where it was best known).
Edward died at the age of 40 years of an incident with the road police.
His career will have lasted only 4 years (from 1968 to 1972); he will have time to form 5 students and after his disappearance, these students have formed in turn of other disciples.

TINGATINGA works actively and represents between 400 and 500 painters in the Tanzania. This is a unique case in the art popular yesteryear spontaneously, and developed by the single will a community.
