African painting : Cartoons Art

The origin of this word is English, which means drawings, paintings, caricatures, cartoons or comics are made with vivid colors. We can see that the forms are simplistic, but only in appearance!
Very often, the animals are represented from a face angle, and African painting (such as TINGATINGA, name inherited from the founder of this art) applies it also to human beings. This drawing, painting technique is stylized in order to give a fantasist outlook.
In TINGATINGA painting, we can find very often village's day to day life scenes, wizard's stories and fables.
What is marvelous for occidental's eye, these artists paint with very little means at the edge of a runway as well as a road (because to date, these materialized roads, start crossing Tanzania); but they also adapt themselves to weather hazards. This gives another dimension to the value of their work. It is important to know that their canvas is made out of cheap fabrics, they must apply a first white layer to give substance to their support (e.g. our canvas), and then draw the objects, subjects as described above!
We can observe that generally the subjects (especially the animals) are painted with dotted line, which gives them a very thorough, very precise aspect.
The fabulous side is that Tanzanian's artists know how to translate the smile of life, especially with animals (lions, hippopotamus, giraffes, buffalos for the wildlife; peacocks, guinea fowl and chickens for those we could call domestic; this changes us from our cats, dogs, rabbits etc.).
In synthesis, we could qualify this type of painting "naive art"; which is, in no point, similar to the one of the west.
